BUBBLES
Bubbles in wine immediately make you think of Champagne.
Perhaps the most romantic and inspiring of wines, Champagne is synonymous with celebration and enjoyment of life and everything it has to offer. It’s also intrinsically linked to love and romance.
Champagne, like other wines, is to share and its bubbles remind us of the life inside the bottle. Like all good things, however, bubbles disappear, reminding us to seize the moment and enjoy. Grab the opportunity to have fun!
The bubbles in the wine give such a special feeling and spark such emotion when you drink, that sipping Champagne is always a memorable experience.
Champagne is originally from France. Its reputation grew in the 19th century when it began to be exported outside of the country as far afield as the USA and Russia, where it became a favourite of the Tsar.
It is the wine making technique invented in Champagne, France that makes the sparkling wine of the same name so unique. Before, bubbles in wine were considered as a defect of the product. The precise control needed to produce Champagne is complex, and it took a long time to perfect the process in the Champagne region.
It’s sold in a differently shaped and heavier bottle than other wines. The ‘pop’ of the cork is a special sound indeed, reminiscent of parties and celebrations.
As with other great products, fame brought copies. Nowadays, Champagne wine is copied all over the place, and other regions have developed their own sparkling wines.
Nonetheless, Champagne is Champagne and in the words of Confucius, to have order and understanding, things need to be named correctly. However, there’s also a huge range of other sparkling wines available, offering the opportunity to taste similar products from different regions and terroirs .
So, to better enjoy your wine, take note of where it’s from – it can mean everything!
